Our control panel is packed full of features. Today I will go over the file management features.
When you log into your personal control panel, you will see a few more features than what you can see on our DEMO Control Panel.
The first section you will see will be the “Files” section.
[Normal_Box]File Manager
Using the file manager you will be able to view, edit, upload and download your website files. This is ideal if you are away from your usual computer and you need to edit a few files. If you need to access and upload using an FTP Client we suggest Filezilla. Filezilla is a free FTP Client that will enable you to manage your website files and it’s very easy to use.
Check Site Permissions
This control panel page allows you to check if the permissions on your website appear to be valid. This will:
- Check that the permissions make any sense at all, eg. that a directory is accessible or that a script is executable
- Check for conditions which would make the web server refuse to run a script for security reasons
- Check for permissions which are likely to lead to security problems on your site
The results of the scan are recommendations only: in some cases there might be a genuine need to have unusual permissions. However, lots of scripts assume an insecure environment in which all sites on a server run as the same user – such scripts will tend to want permissions like 777 and 666 which are not appropriate here.
[/Normal_Box] [Normal_Box]Additional FTP Accounts
Additional FTP accounts are most commonly used to give others access to an account for the purpose of sharing a web development project – without giving them control over the entire website. By restricting their access to their home directory, you can ensure they can only modify files within this particular space.
Each FTP account comes with a unique username which you specify when set up, and a random password. Additionally, you specify the home directory of each FTP account, which will ensure that the FTP account user cannot move below this specified area of your account.
Backup/Restore
Creating a backup allows you to download your website as a zip file to your computer, you can use this to make a regular backup of your website in case you lose any data. In the event of data loss you can use any previous backup to restore your website. Please note that this only backs up the web site files (as available via FTP). This means, for example, that databases are not backed up here. You can modify and back up your databases from the databases page.
Web Builder
The Web Builder is a product we resell for our hosts. The websites that you can produce can look pretty good but you may find you will have to upgrade to get all the features. There is a yearly charge of £20 to upgrade to the pro version.
